Favignana fun!

So we headed from Palermo via bus to the Trapani port, it was quite simple and cheap, cost 17 Euro for the two of us with plenty of room for our now obviously too large bags.  Once at the port we purchased tickets from Liberty Lines and rode a hydrofoil out to Favignana for 3 days and nights of island time.  No watch.  No schedule.  No plans except to rent some scooters and explore.   It was a blast.

Hotel Aegusa  is a nice place and the receptionist was very helpful, after checking in she let us know the wind direction, as which side of the island to find a good beach, and off we went.  A 5 minute walk led us the beach right near the port where we rented chairs and settled in for some sun and a cold swim.  The Med is cold right now peeps, even in this shallow beach area.  Wasn't keeping me out as the sun is beaming down on Sicily per the norm.

We had a good appetizer (octopus and shrimp) and dinner, according to the waiter the best tonno rosso (red tuna) in the town.  He was not correct but it was good.

The tuna filet was quite thin but flavorful.

The next two days on Favignana were spent cruising around the entire island on rented scooters, which are super easy to rent at the port, visiting the swimming holes and just goofing around.  Its a small island and there is little sand, the shoreline mostly rock, but the water (cold as it was) was amazing.  Here are a few shots of the coastline.

Bue Marino, Favignana

Cala Rossa, Favignana (me swimming before the minor jellyfish sting)

Western side of the island

We had fun riding the scooters, Favignana was the perfect place in Italy as the other places are simply not safe for us to be on two wheels.

We enjoyed some pizzas on night 2, mine was bottarga di tonno, tuna eggs, a strong taste but really good.  Bought some bottarga pate to bring home, yum.   And of course plenty of tasty and suggestive wine 😍

Night 3 brought us to a lovely restaurant, Quello Che C'e' C'e', the dinner was fabulous as were the presentations of the meal, ours and those around us.  Really cool aspect of the restaurant I've never seen, they had a TV in the dining room that had a live feed from the kitchen, was great to watch them run around and prep the food.  And they should have the confidence to show their kitchen, the output was amazing.  We enjoyed:

Moscardini all Rosario con pachino, aglio, olio e peproncino (baby octopus in tomato, garlic, oil and peppers sauce) as an appetizer (you won't find that on a menu in America)

Yummy octopus!

Kathie got the Gamberone rosso di Mazara scottato all'aglio e Rum (red shrimp with garlic and rum)

and I enjoyed the tagliata di tonno rosso scottato con pesto di pistacchio di Bronte (tuna filet with Bronte pistacchio as well as onions, tomatoes and mixed vegetables).  This was the best tuna dish on the island, melt in your mouth delicious!!!

When your tuna filet is from a fish so big it's marbled.......so freakin good!

We had some really good snacks and meals along the way while cruising on the scooters, like these lemon granitas with a touch of orange served from a portable orange!

A tuna & onion sandwich

And of course a cannoli or two!

And we found these guys while we were cruising around

Kathie naturally bought something off the kids selling things on the street, island version of a lemonade stand

Favignana was fun and relaxing, although the weather cancelled our outbound plans to one of the other Egadi Islands, so we headed back to Sicily through I'd say 4-6 foot seas to continue the adventure.
